The top 10 reasons why everyone should try E-Biking in Northumberland

I’ve been asked a few times “Hmm, I’m not sure - is E-Biking really for me?”. And my answer is always yes! If you’re at least 14 years old, can ride a bike, and simply like having a good time - then yes, E-Biking is definitely for you.

But, rather than just wax lyrical about how much I love it, I’ve nailed it down to the top 10 reasons why everyone should give E-Biking a go. Here it is:

1. Fun!

Let’s start simple: cruising along on an E-Bike is fun! It’s a guaranteed endorphins hit, or you could just call it ‘a good time’. Add in exploring the stunning Northumbrian outdoors, plus spending time with your favourite people, and it’s an irresistible combo.

2. easy-peasy, lemon squeezy

Are you 14 years old or older? Can you ride a bike? Great! Then you can definitely ride an E-Bike. It’s really as easy as that!

When you collect your E-Bike we will give you an explanation of how the bike works, but it boils down to three things: Ride it like a normal bike. Use the gears button on the handlebars to increase/ decrease the power boost from the battery. Keep an eye on your battery consumption now and then. Otherwise, just relax and enjoy the ride.

3. all together now

For me personally, the #1 reason I love E-Biking is it enables anyone to enjoy an active day out together. Gone are the days of struggling to keep up with your partner/ family/ friends, or worrying that you’re not young, fit or brave enough to even take part. With the battery support of an E-Bike, everyone can get involved - and all truly enjoy the day out together.

4. feel the burn (but not too much)

E-Bikes use a motor to add power as you pedal (a little or a lot more power, depending on which gear you choose). So in a nutshell, you do still need to pedal! This means you’ll still get some healthy exercise at your own pace, and benefit from plenty of fresh air too.

5. freedom

E-Bikes open up a whole new realm of outdoor possibilities for most riders. Routes that were previously too far, too hilly or too windy come into easy reach with the engine support of an E-Bike. Which puts cycling to some of Northumberland’s best spots, like Holy Island, on the table.

6. get more than a glimpse

Don’t get me wrong: in Northumberland you can see plenty of stunning countryside, views and historical landmarks from the comfort of your car. And I totally get it - on your well-deserved holiday, sometimes that comfort is exactly what we all need.

But as you recharge, I’d encourage truly seeing the scenery versus glimpsing it as you pass by. Be actually present in the landscape, notice the details around you (a rare wading bird here, the wind in the dune grasses there), and feel the sea air. I promise it adds more than a few extra layers to the view. I’d say it brings our coastal AONB (Area Of Natural Beauty) to life.

7. slow it down

Take a deep breath, set the engine to cruise mode, do some steady pedalling, and focus on watching the world go by. You can’t help but relax.

8. a little buzz

Ok, you might think I’m contradicting point 7 - but hear me out! Slowing down is amazing, but who doesn’t also like a bit of adventure now and again? As well as the excitement of exploring new routes, our E-Bikes travel at up to 25km per hour so you can whoosh down a hill or whiz along a quiet stretch with the wind in your hair (ahem, under your helmet please).

For any real adrenalin junkies out there, we recommend you switch to our Mountain Bikes. But if you’re looking for a little buzz, then zooming along on an E-Bike will be just the ticket.

9. giggles

From experience, we can almost guarantee you will get a laugh out of your E-Biking trip. Everybody needs a giggle now and again to stay sane, right?

Prime example: When I was (secretly) thinking about setting up this business, I decided to test it out on a poor, unsuspecting guinea pig - my Dad. Age 60-something, hasn’t been on a bicycle since the 1980s, fun guy but reluctant to trust this “electronic bike thingy”. Well, after convincing him to get aboard, we cruised from Berwick to Holy Island, re-fuelled there at Pilgrims Coffee, appreciated the E-Bike motors on our windy way back over the Causeway, enjoyed a cheeky vino at the Barn at Beal, then pedalled our way home. We had an absolute laugh from start to finish. The family Whatsapp group has never seen more laughing emojis.

10. making memories

Life is all about the good times. It’s about the days you love in the moment and remember years later. The times you spent with loved ones doing something fun. Or the times you tried something new, explored a new place, or found your new favourite view. (Or all of the above?). I’ve had some of my best memories dragging my boyfriend, parents, and friends along with me on E-Bike days out. Honestly - I called this business Good Times Bicycle Hire for a reason!

That’s all from my own E-Biking experiences. I’d encourage you to give it a go, or give us a ring if any questions.

Happy E-Biking, and let the good times roll!
